Intragastric Balloon
The intragastric balloon is a non-surgical weight-loss treatment in which a soft balloon is placed in the stomach during a short endoscopy and filled with sterile saline. It helps patients feel full with smaller portions, supporting steady weight loss alongside a structured nutrition programme.
What Is an Intragastric Balloon?
The balloon is passed through the mouth into the stomach during a short endoscopy under sedation, with no incisions, and is then filled with sterile saline. It takes up space in the stomach and slows stomach emptying, so patients feel full sooner. The balloon stays in place for 6 or 12 months depending on the type, and is removed by endoscopy at the end of the treatment period. Acid-reducing medication is prescribed while the balloon is in place. It is not suitable after previous stomach surgery, or with a large hiatal hernia or an active stomach ulcer.

BMI of 30 or more
Patients who have not reached their goal with diet and exercise
